Beautiful Work I got this book for my daughter who's a junior at high school. I must say, this is the perfect book for someone at that level - much more accessible than Grey's (and much cheaper I might add). The photo's are crisp and the exploded views are wonderfully detailed. I highly recommend this for students or anyone interested in anatomy.
A.D.A.M., Your Parts Are Showing! It's all here in full color and from a variety of angles! Everything that's under your skin! The impressive A.D.A.M. Student Atlas of Anatomy (Second Edition) provides 492 pages (including the Index) of beautiful full color illustrations and disgusting cadaver comparisons with extreme details and a million labels you probably never heard of if you're not a medical student or professional. Essentially, it is a thorough softback atlas of the human body. My only complaint is that surface anatomy isn't covered much at all, but I'd be surprised if anything on the inside was left out! The color-coded, 8 chapter book also comes with a 1 year subscription (on the inside back cover) to the A.D.A.M. Online Anatomy database of over 20,000 anatomical, dissectible, male and female structures.
Now, you probably think only a medical student, or professional, would have use for this book, but you'd be wrong. If you're an artist or writer, sculptor or something else of that nature, consider picking it up. I selected this one because I'm an illustrator and could use a better understanding of anatomy. While it probably won't be used as much by me as an artist's book on anatomy covering various poses and with the skin on, one never knows when they'll have to draw the living dead or a man being eaten by lions or something, and when that happens, this is definitely the book to turn to!
Multiple view points! The ADAM Student Atlas of Anatomy does an excelent job of presenting multiple views of complex anatomical structures while very usefully emphasizing easily rememberable surface landmarks. It does this not only through detailed color illustrations, but also superb photographs from cadavers and selected radiographs. A brief and thorough user's guide clearly explains the effective use of the atlas. This alone makes this one of the better laid out and easier to follow body atlas's. If you need to know about human anatomy for school, work or just for fun this is the book you'll want to have. Highly recommended.
Excellent book
Ingenious the way the book is layed out. Makes learning the body much simpler than conventional style books. Best book of this type that I ve seen yet.
Good reference I am a graduate psychology student, so my interest in the human body is primarily with the brain and nervous system, but I found this to be a really fascinating reference. It thoroughly examines each portion of the human body in detail, with both excellent full-color illustrations, and photographs of dissected cadavers (and the occasional not dissected, alive-and-well person, too).
I was pleased that the section on the brain showed a lot more of the specific parts than many books (particularly psychological texts). I'd recommend this book not only to those curious about the workings of the body and how it's put together for academic purposes, but also artists wanting to improve their knowledge of anatomy, and folks in general how who are curious about how we're put together.
